Many people believe that money is the ultimate success. However, there are many wealthy people that are utterly miserable. Maybe success is about more than just money.
You can define success for yourself. Is success about money? It can be if that’s what you choose. It can also be about something else. You can set several criteria and attempt to achieve them.
What’s important is to create a definition for success that resides within your values, allows you to enjoy life, and avoids feelings of regret when you get older.
This is easier to determine than you might think.
Your definition of success is unique and yours to determine. Period! 🗣
Consider these ideas:
Whatever the reasons are that resonate with you, just make sure it is YOU who is defining what successful means for yourself. Don't leave something that important up to the expectations of society or other people. That will never serve you.

People sometimes feel that they have no hope. They find themselves in dire situations and believe they're never going to recover. For instance, a person may be born with an issue that sets up barriers right from the start. Another scenario is people who experience trauma.
These situations are never comfortable, and it may be understandable why people feel there is no hope. However, there are several instances of people who overcame dire circumstances and thrived in the process. One example is Helen Keller. At the age of 11, she lost both her sight and hearing due to complications of a disease. With the help of her live-in teacher, Anne Sullivan, Keller went to college and became a prolific author and activist. She has set up schools for people who are blind and deaf.
While you may have heard of Helen Keller, have you ever heard of Nick Vujicic? Nick was born without arms and legs. He is now a motivational speaker and evangelist. You can see plenty of videos of him doing activities better than people who have all their limbs. He simply refuses to let a lack of limbs get in his way.
If you remember Christopher Reeves, who was an American actor famous for playing Superman in the 1990s series of movies. He developed quadriplegia after a horse riding incident. Shortly after the incident, he used his fame to help others who experience similar fates.
There are plenty of other examples of people who rose above their disabilities. It is a source of inspiration and motivation to others who feel helpless. These are all examples of people who would be likely to give up based on their circumstances but refused to do so. Their situations were in no way easy to deal with, and they all had long journeys to rise above their situations. They not only did it but excelled at it.
Perhaps there is someone in your life who is facing a particularly difficult situation. You can help them by showing the inspiration of the people mentioned in this article. Even people who are not facing dire situations can get motivated by these great people.
For instance, if you are facing a problem, think about what these people had to go through to give yourself some perspective. It will help motivate you to look for a solution. You shouldn’t look at it as reveling in their misery. You are instead, celebrating their lives and their ability to overcome the adversities they faced.
If motivating others were easy, everyone would do it. You can’t just read about a few techniques and implement them, expecting major changes to happen. It takes practice like anything else worthwhile.
Motivating others requires them to be willing. If someone is hard-set in not doing something, there will be little you can do to change that. You may be able to force someone, i.e., if you are a manager, etc. However, that is not the same as motivating them. If you were to leave the company, they would revert to their previous behavior.
Realize that trying a technique only when the mood strikes is not going to produce results. You must be dedicated to trying them out and continue doing so until you see results. You also need to determine when something isn’t working after several tries and seek an alternative approach. Unfortunately, there is no magic number as to when to make that determination.
Motivating others is about aligning their goals with yours. This alignment could require some compromises in the process. For instance, if you are trying to get one of your workers to do something, you need to listen to them if they legitimately say they have too much other work. You can offer to have someone else on your team take up some of the extra work, or you could even do it yourself under certain circumstances.
You can’t approach motivation as entirely academic. In other words, if you read about something and try to implement it, you think it should work. If it doesn’t, you may blame the people you are trying to motivate and believe there is something wrong with them. However, some people may be going through stressful situations and so are not able to focus on their jobs or even their personal life. You need to have compassion for them and factor in human emotions that may be at play.
If motivating others isn’t working, you should try to find out why. It may be something you are doing that needs change. For instance, are you practicing what you preach? If you are telling everyone that they must work on weekends but are unwilling to work yourself, then you will experience resistance from your team. You will have much better results if you are on the front lines with your troops.
Motivation is more about communication than barking orders. It is about getting people to recognize the importance of the work or task at hand. You must allow them to take the initiative and own the problem and their solution.
